Photos from the 1979 Kora Shrine Circus #1

The Shriners do amazing work giving back to the community with programs such as the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Every year local Shrines bring the circus to town and the Shrine Circus has became a staple in family traditions all over the country. In southern Maine, the Kora Shrine has been providing the area with great entertainment for 64 years now! On April 13,1979 in Lewiston, the Kora Shrine Circus came to town and made some great memories.

A dozen visually impaired children from Montello School in Lewiston were among a large group of  children with disabilities attending the April 13, 1979 afternoon performance of the Shrine Circus at the Central Maine Youth Center. Earphones were provided so the children could hear a description of the events taking place and narration was done by Mark Erikson of WLAM. The equipment needed was loaned by the Audio Service Co. of Auburn. Shriner Carroll Scribner, who is also the Montello Principal, and Alfred Simpson & Richard Roux of the Telephone Pioneers of America Chester C. Stevens counsel made the special arrangements for this.

Early in the day before the show, Shrine Circus Clowns brightened the day for all the residents and staff at the Marcotte Nursing Home. Thirty of the residents were transported to see the show later that day.
